Madagascar Morning Peace Card: Approaching Madagascar’s Avenue of Baobabs at  dawn is like stepping into a medieval cathedral: you are entering a place that is awe-inspiring, ancient, and vast. The grove of giants stands like an arboreal sanctuary in a landscape otherwise denuded by rice fields, and cut through by a national road.

The baobab is second in iconic status only to Madagascar’s endangered lemur. In fact, the two are intricately linked: the giant tree needs the tiny primate to pollinate its flowers, and the lemurs need the baobabs for food, water, and shelter. Sadly, both are endangered today.

Inside: the word PEACE in Chinese, Nepali, Arabic, French, Thai, Malagasy, Georgian, and English.

Nepal Teatime Peace Card: Laundry day in Kathmandu unfolds at a comfortably slow pace, as a couple relaxes over tea while colorful clothing dries on the line. Kathmandu is Nepal's capital city and the center of Nepalese culture and art. It is also one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in the world, dating back to the 2nd century.

Kathmandu's appeal can be found in its historic structures and chaotic energy, but its greatest charm comes from the warm hospitality of the people who call it home.

Guatemala2/Lake Atitlán Boatride: With three volcanoes flanking its southern shore,  Lake Atitlán is renowned as one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Its shoreline is dotted with villages where Maya culture endures and traditional dress is still worn. Locals live off the land, which is rich in ash and other minerals, and traditional maize farming methods are unchanged in a conscious effort to honor ancient customs. With no road encircling the lake, communities are generally reached only by boat.

Madagascar4/Boatload of Boys & Bikes: Nosy Baraha, or Île Sainte-Marie, is a long, narrow tropical island in the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Madagascar. The island has a single paved road running its length. Like other Malagasy schoolchildren, students on Sainte-Marie wear uniforms and ride their bicycles to school. However, those who live on the the tiny islet of Nattes, off the south end of Sainte-Marie, are ferried every day by pirogue across the narrow channel at road’s end. For these students heading home from school, it’s a fun blend of the old and new.
